The approach:
Today’s sound is achieved by isolation recording. Each instrument must be recorded separate from the others. This takes time, but gets the best results.
There are no set rules, but the typical track gets recorded in this order — Drums, accompanied by the entire band in another room. Then bass, guitars and finally vocals. It’s a creative process, so the flow changes based on the needs of the song and the sound the artist wants.
There is nothing cookie cutter about it because every band sounds different.
